The 'Swimming General' raises the number of board members to nine - a proposal to add a member to the youth category within the Federation's board of directors
The General Assembly of the Swimming, Water Polo and Diving Federation decided, in its extraordinary meeting held yesterday, through visual communication headed by Sultan Al-Samahi, President of the Federation, to raise the number of members of the Board of Directors to 9 instead of 7, and it was approved by a majority to amend Article 44 of the election regulations regarding Increasing the number, as the generality adopted the “Statute of the Federation, including the amendments made to it in accordance with the guide to the governance of sports federations, to be sent to the International Swimming Federation for approval, and it was approved by the majority to allocate a member for the youth category between 25 and 35 years old, and approval to add an amendment Special Article 50, that the candidate for the presidency of the Federation is from a club that enjoys a membership in the General Assembly of the Federation, and his qualification is not less than high school. The meeting began with a speech by Sultan Al-Samahi in which he thanked the General Assembly for its cooperation with the Federation, and thanked the General Sports Authority for its support, and the National Olympic Committee, For its cooperation with the Union in amending the statute.
Abdullah Al-Wahaibi, Secretary-General of the Swimming Federation, revealed the next steps regarding holding the elections to form the board of directors for the new session extending until 2024, which is still pending after being postponed several times, saying: “The holding of the elections is linked to the approval of the International Swimming Federation, and it will be provided with the amendments to the statute that it has adopted. The General Assembly, including the amendments made to it to comply with the guide to the governance of sports federations, to be approved by “Fina” for final approval, and after notifying us of its approval, the Federation will immediately invite the General Assembly to resume the electoral process procedures under the supervision of the Elections Committee selected by the Assembly, and a specific date cannot be set. At the present time, to receive the approval of the International Federation and its final approval of the system, so that all the articles that came in it regarding the organization of the election process can be implemented.”
