The General Assembly of the Swimming Federation, in its extraordinary meeting held on Wednesday, through the “Zoom” application, approved the request of the National Olympic Committee to postpone the elections for the formation of the Federation’s Board of Directors for the 2020-2024 session, until the completion of amending the statutes of the federation to comply with the guide The governance of sports federations, which was recently launched by the Sports Authority and the Olympic Committee, bearing in mind that the decision of Dr. Ahmed Belhoul Al Falasi, Chairman of the General Sports Authority, set a period of 3 months for all federations, and the like, to reconcile their positions in accordance with the provisions of the guide.
The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Sultan Al-Samahi, President of the Swimming Federation, in the presence of the representative of 'FINA' Taha Al-Koshari, member of the Executive Office of the International Federation, the representative of the Olympic Committee, Muhammad bin Darwish, Executive Director of the Committee, Abdul Aziz Al-Hasan, the representative of the Sports Authority, and the representative of 14 clubs out of 16.
Abdullah Al-Wahaibi, Secretary-General of the Swimming Federation, said that the General Assembly agreed to postpone the elections based on what was presented by the representative of the Olympic Committee during the meeting, noting that it was decided to hold workshops between the Olympic Committee, the Federation, and the General Assembly, to explain the articles and provisions of the governance guide to guide it in amending the system.
